Shot Zone Analytics
Shot Zone Analytics gives you an ability to look at where shot attempts are taken by scoring zone as well
as goals, expected goals, shooting percentage and save percentage by zone. Furthermore, this can all be
filtered by the team taking the shots, the team facing the shots, the players on the ice,
the shooter, the goalie, the game state, regular season or playoff games, over specific time periods
(including spanning several seasons) and you can view the results relative to league average or relative
to the offensive or defensive team average. It is an extremely fleixible and powerful tool that can offer
insights into the offensive and defensive play by a team or a player.
However, Shot Zone Analytics is only available to Premium Subscribers. What you see below is exactly how
it looks for Premium Subscribers however all of the functionality has been disabled.
The 'On Ice Player' or 'Off Ice Player' applies to both the offensive team player and defensive team player.
If you want an 'On Ice Player' for the offensive team and an 'Off Ice Player' for the defensive team they need to be on separate rows.
Why are there two xG values? There is an USAT (Unblocked Shot Attempt) xG which is an expected goal calculation that includes missed shots and
can be a more useful metric for evaluating a team or skaters ability to generate scoring chances.
There is also an SOG xG which is an expected goal calcuation that excludes missed shots. This is better for evaluating goalies and comparing
with a goalies save percentage (since Sv% only considers shots on goal).
HP% indicates the home plate percentage which includes the 10 home plate regions (crease, low left/center/right slot, mid left/center/right slot and high left/center/right slot)
Miss% indicated the percentage of unblocked shot attempts that missed the net.
Close Games are defined as games in which the final goal differential between teams is no more than one goal excluding empty net goals.
Selecting a 'Relative to' option shows the difference between the result and the League/Offensive Team/Defensive Team average over same time period, situation and game outcome. Relative To option is disabled when showing full league or team data.
